The biggest favorite to win the title, before the competition started was Denmark. But they lost their opening match against Iceland and Hungary was in lead during 58 minutes in the second game.
The rejuvenated Hungarian team, without big names missing, managed to control the game and was in lead 6-10, at the middle of the first half. Máthé, Szita or Nagy, all in their early twenties did a really good job both in defense and attack, scoring important goals against a very good saving Niklas Landin. The first half was won by Hungarians 11-13.
In the second half, the team of the Gulyás-Chema duo managed to keep the one-two goal advantage, slowed down the game and put Denmark under pressure in every situation. Zsolt Balogh scored seven goals in this half and Mikler helped his team from behind. For Denmark only ECh debutant Magnus Bramming on the left-wing remarked himself with his good performance beside Niklas Landin, otherwise, the team showed weak performance. If Hungary would win the two points, Denmark would be out of the EURO. But the match ended luckily 24-24, Denmark still has a chance to make it trough to the Main Round if Hungary will lose against Iceland and they beat Russia with a bigger goal difference.
