The match was crucial regarding the qualification to the semifinal, the winner would stay in the race, the loser would be out. The press gave us an even match in the first half, with Gomes back for Portugal and a good saving Quintana.

In the second half, Portugal becomes weaker in defense and less focused on the attack, and several doubtfull referee.decisions made the Portuguese team insecure. Quintana kept them in the match for a while, but Slovenia with Bombac at the stirring, Dolenec and Janc scoring, proofed to be better and kept their chances alive for going to the semifinals.

Portugal – Slovenia 24 – 29 (15 – 14)

Referes: Gjeding, Hansen (DEN)

Topscorers: Gomes 6, Frade 4, Areia 3, Portela 3 (POR) and Janc 7, Mackovsek 6, Dolenec 6, Zarabec 4 (SLO)
