IHF re-evaluated the situation in the (handball)world and took measures today.
The Olympic Qualification tournaments both for Women and Men are postponed for a later date, which could be June 2020.
Statement from IHF:
“The health and safety of everyone involved in the process to organize and play the 2020 IHF Tokyo Handball Qualification Tournaments are the top priorities of the International Handball Federation.
Even though the IHF and host federations were keen to hold the events as scheduled with strict safety precautions, ongoing challenges presented by COVID-19 since the meeting between the IHF and the host federations on Wednesday such as travel restrictions and government mandates led to a thorough re-evaluation.
As a result of this re-evaluation, the women’s tournaments originally scheduled from 20 to 22 March in Spain, Hungary, and Montenegro and the men’s tournaments originally scheduled from 17 to 19 April in Norway, France and Germany have been postponed to June 2020. The participants will remain unchanged.
Announcements regarding the new dates for these events will be communicated in due course.”
